Gage Richard Bryce

November 30, 2001 - November 28, 2017


BRYCE, Gage Richard, age 15 years, passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 28, 2017 after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born on November 30, 2001 to his lifelong best friend, Donald and Melanie (Bird) Bryce in Saginaw, Michigan. Gage had a great love for University of Michigan sports and basketball. He could often be found in the driveway shooting hoops. Gage was a man of few words but touched so many people with his actions and attitude towards life. He was well known for his angelic smile and witty sense of humor. So many words could be use to describe Gage but some of the best are brave, selfless, giving, thoughtful, humble and kind.

Along with his parents Gage is survived by his sister, Madison; grandparents, Don and Delma Bryce; aunts and uncles, Sean (Renee) Bryce, Tammy (Bob) Weisbarth, Marianne Bird, Doug (Pam) Bird, Joe (Julie) Ott, Judy (Joe) Galonska, Larry (Cathy) Ott and Charles Whaley; Cousins, Justin (Erin) Bird, MacKenzie Bird, Nichole (Corey) Garstecki, Drew Weisbarth (Emily), and Gavin and Chloe Bryce; and many other special friends and family. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Richard and Cheri Bird.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. at St. Charles High School gymnasium. Pastor Jason Baldwin will officiate. The family will greet friends on Friday, December 1 from 1:00-8:00 p.m. at the high school and again on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorial contributions can be made to the Pediatric Cancer Research Fund at C.S. Mott Children's Hospital, St. Charles Athletic Association in honor of Gage's love for basketball, or Swan Valley Pay It Forward.

The family would like to extend their gratitude and appreciation to St. Charles and the surrounding communities for their tremendous amount of love and support during these difficult times. A special thanks also goes out to Dr. Rajen Mody, Rhonda McDougall N.P., Dr. Gregory Yanik and the amazing staff at C.S. Mott Children's Hospital for their care, compassion and love for our son.


John William Guthrie

October 14, 1967 - November 24, 2017


GUTHRIE, John William, age 50 years, passed away suddenly at his home on Friday, November 24, 2017. He was born on October 14, 1967 in Saginaw, Michigan to Paul and Janet (Schmitt) Guthrie. John was the family comedian and had a great love for his grandchildren and family.

John is survived by his children, Chanel, Tyler and Ashlyn Guthrie and Erinn Godfrey; grandchildren, Shaylyn, Taylor, Taydin and Makenna; mother, Janet Guthrie; siblings, Dawn (John) Wilding, Brian Guthrie, Roger Guthrie, Kim Periso and Jadie Periso, Jr. and many other family and friends. John was predeceased by his father, Paul Guthrie, Sr. and brother Paul Guthrie, Jr; and a nephew, Adam Wildling.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at C.M. Humpula Funeral Home, 209 Entrepreneur Dr., St. Charles. Pastor Dave Boillat will officiate. Bruce Allan Pelletier

December 17, 1951 - November 15, 2017


PELLETIER, Bruce Allan, age 65 years, passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2017. He was born on December 17, 1951 in Bay City, Michigan to the late John Pelletier and Patricia (Robert) Cramer. Bruce retired from General Motors after 33.5 years. He married the former Gwen Voss on July 22, 1983 and she survives him. He was a master of the grill, had a great sense of humor and wittiness and was a man with a huge heart always helping out friends and family with anything they needed. He also had a tremendous amount of love for his beautiful wife, and his loving children and grandchildren.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Gwen Pelletier; children, Chad (Kristine) Pelletier, MariLynn (Christian) Madajczyk, Nichole Pelletier and Riley Jo Pelletier; grandchildren, Nathan (Shauni) Adams, Taylor (Brian) Wenk, Zachary Adams, Kaitlyn Adams and Aubrey Madajczyk; siblings, Sue (Jerry) Lane, David Pelletier, Beth (Mark) Draves, Kirk (Dwight) Pelletier and Kristie Pelletier; brothers-in-law, Mark Voss, William Voss, Jr. and Timothy (Michelle) Voss and many nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, John and Patricia, Bruce was preceded in death by his parents-in-law William and Irene Voss and sister-in-law, Janice Zagorski.

A funeral service will take place Sunday, November 19, 2017 at 5:00 p.m., at C.M. Humpula Funeral Home, 209 Entrepreneur Dr., St. Charles. Pastor Bill Bodnar will officiate. Visitation will take place at the funeral home from noon until the time of service. Memorial contributions can be made to Team Gage or to the family. A dinner will be held at 7pm at the Saints Snowmobile Club, 8230 South Fordney Road, St. Charles.

April Shawn Dean

May 19, 1974 - October 19, 2017


DEAN, April Shawn, 43 years old, passed away suddenly on Thursday, October 19, 2017 in Cudahy, Wisconsin. She was born in Saginaw to the late Richard and Virgel Maier, who survives her, on May 19, 1974. She graduated from St. Charles High School in 1992 and was a varsity cheerleader. April's world revolved around her son Logan who recently graduated from high school. She also enjoyed shopping and drinking McDonalds Frappes.

Along with her son, Logan Dean and mother, Virgel Maier, April is survived by her long time significant other, Kevin Lobraco; brother, Ryan (Jenni) Maier; nieces, Cameryn and Jamie; nephews, Ryan Jr. and Deion; aunts and uncles, Duane (Ruth Ann) Maier, Lucille Maier, Ruthann (Norm) Hahn, Jim (Lorie) Rogers, Joyce Rogers and Glennie Sargent; and many cousins and friends. April was preceded in death by a daughter, Gabrielle P.; Grandparents Herman and Marguerite Maier and Glen and Esther Rogers; uncles, Ken Maier and Howard Rogers; and aunts Betty Marlin and Joyce Dingler.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at C.M. Humpula Funeral Home, 209 Entrepreneur Dr., St. Charles. Pastor Michael Vollmer will officiate. Burial will follow at Brant Township Cemetery, with a lunch to follow at Nelson United Methodist Church, 5950 South Hemlock Road, Hemlock, MI. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, October 24 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and again on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials can be made to the family.


Frank Maul

August 15, 1935 - October 19, 2017


MAUL, Frank passed away peacefully October 19, 2017 at Union Court in St. Charles. Age 93 years. Born August 15, 1924 in Saginaw, Michigan. He was the beloved husband of Glenrose (Cleveland) Maul. They were married for 63 years. Glenrose predeceased him on September 30, 2011 at age 84.

After serving in the US Navy during World War II, Frank worked for AT Ferrell, constructing machinery for grain separating. Frank built the first family home in Saginaw Township where he and Glenrose raised six children. Frank's interests included a lifetime of coin collecting, woodworking, gardening, planting trees and building elaborate terraced landscaping and flowering gardens with his wife after retirement.

As a teenager, Frank learned about forestry in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in Northern Michigan. Frank was an avid outdoorsman with great enthusiasm for hunting and fishing accompanied by his sons, Bob and Dan. He enjoyed an active life, biking,walking daily, couples bowling league, listening to the Detroit Tigers baseball by radio and singing in church.

Frank loved to visit the Michigan Great Lakes with family fun vacations taken at many state parks where they canoed on rivers, swam, did siteseeing and had homemade picnics. In retirement, Frank and Glenrose moved to Traverse City where they built two homes. They continued to travel together on long road trips across the USA including Reno and Denver where daughters Mary and Nancy live. They even drove to Alaska! Frank is survived by children Julie, Mary, Dan (Nan) and Nancy (Bob). 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by daughter Barbara and son Robert, and his brother Joe.

Frank will be held dear in our memory as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was known by all as a hard worker, a good neighbor, devout in his faith and a lifelong member of the Catholic Church. With love and honor we wish Dad peace in Heaven.

The family gives special thanks to the incredible loving caregivers at Union Court. Their extraordinary care and love to Frank and family will never be forgotten. Also a special thanks to A&D Hospice Care who so gently helped Frank and family on his last journey.

Frank will be cremated, per his wishes, as arranged through Humpula Funeral Home, 209 Entrepreneur Dr, St. Charles, MI 48655. A Remembrance service will be held on a future date in Spring 2018 followed by interment of both Frank and his wife Glenrose. Rosalea Ann Mendyk

October 21, 1935 - October 4, 2017


MENDYK, Rosalea, age 81 years, passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2017 in Campbellsville, Kentucky. She was born on October 21, 1935 in Brant, Michigan to the late Just and Helen (Thurber) Huntley. She married Eugene Mendyk on November 22, 1953 at Immaculate Conception Church in St. Charles and he preceded her in death.

Rosalea is survived by her children, Darryl Mendyk of Florida, Theresue (Dan) Ashby of Kentucky, Sherri Mendyk of Florida, Jodi (Kevin) Schmitzer of Frankenmuth and Donnie (Catena) Mendyk of Florida; grandchildren, Chad (April) Mendyk of Oscoda, Josh (Ashley) Wirt of Kentucky, Kayla (Josh) Taylor of Reese and Haley Schmitzer (Tyler) of Frankenmuth; great-grandchilren, Laura, Sofhia and Jackson Mendyk of Oscoda and Riley Taylor of Reese; a sister, Bernice Zambrowski of Detroit; a very special friend Vanassa Flinchum of Kentucky and her beloved dog Puffin. Along with her husband, Eugene, Rosalea was preceded in death by a son, Eugene A. Mendyk; a brother, Donald Huntly and a grandson, Eugene A. Mendyk.

A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church. Fr. John Cotter will preside. A committal service will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in St. Charles. Visitation will take place on Friday, October 6, 2017 from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. at C.M. Humpula Funeral Home, 209 Entrepreneur Dr., St. Charles and again on Saturday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.



Laurie June Stevens

July 1, 1938 - October 2, 2017


STEVENS, Laurie, age 79 years, passed away October 2, 2017. She was born to the late Arlos and Julia (Kertoonis) Kassin on July 1, 1938 in Unionville, Michigan. On June 7, 1956 she married Richard M. Stevens and he preceded her in death.

Laurie is survived by 4 children, Tim (Frances) Stevens, Terry (Shirley) Stevens, Lee Ann (Dean) Gross and Mariann (Ron) Tausch; 10 grandchildren, Jeremy and Jessica Stevens, Shawn, Hannah, Emily and Morgan Tausch, Katie (Jacob) Perry, Shelby and Joshua Gross and Megan Passmore; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Laurie was preceded in death by 4 sons, Jerry, Donnie, Johnie and Butchie; 2 brothers, Bunny (Fred) Kassin and Jimmy Kassin and a sister, Irene (Bob) Meier.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at C.M. Humpula Funeral Home, 209 Entrepreneur Dr., St. Charles. Pastor Ernesto Mariona will officiate with burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, October 4 from 1:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and again on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Marlene F. Swanson

December 22, 1933 - July 21, 2017


SWANSON, Marlene F., age 83 years, passed away Friday, July 21, 2017. She was born on December 22, 1933 to the late John and Bernice (Pardon) Wood. Marlene retired from Eaton Manufacturing after 34 years of service. She loved spending time up north and gardening.

Marlene is survived by 2 sons, Rusty Swanson and Ronald (Elisha) Swanson; 5 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Ricky Swanson.

Marlene has been cremated and no services are planned.

Lewis J. Gould

May 21, 1921 - July 11, 2017


GOULD, Lewis J., age 96 years, passed away the 11th of July 2017 in Sequim, Washington. He was born in St. Charles, MI on the 21st of May, 1921, the 9th son James Agard and Grace Lewis Gould. He graduated from St. Charles High School in 1938 and entered Albion College in 1939. He left college in his junior year to enlist in the Army Air Corp. He married Patricia Richards, March 6th, 1943 and was enrolled in University of Chicago in meteorology for the Army Air Corp. He served as a Weather Officer for the 14th Fighter Group in Italy for 18 months and was discharged January 1, 1946 with the rank of Captain. He went back to Albion college and graduated in May of 1946.

With his wife and daughter, Susan Ellen, they moved back to St. Charles and began the business of Gould's Ben Franklin Store, from 1949 to 1984. Lewis was the first President of the Chamber of Commerce and belonged to the Lion's Club, Tri Township Fire Department, Friends of the Bad River, The Catholic Diocesan Council and both the Zoning Board of Appeals and Village Council of St. Charles.

Patricia passed away a week before their 62nd wedding anniversary on February 28th, 2005. In 2013, Lewis made a tough decision to sell his home and move to the Northwest to live with his daughter. Along with his daughter, Susan Trapp, he is survived by 3 grandchildren, Jennifer Trapp-Langendoerfer & Mark Langendoerfer, Kaj-Patrick Trapp & Janet Sheerer, Scott Trapp & Tanis Culver Trapp, and 4 great grandchildren-Dylan, Kaelyn and Mara Trapp, Reese Langendoerfer and numerous nieces and nephews. Lewis was preceded in death by his wife, parents and his 9 brothers and 3 sisters.

A visitation will take place on Tuesday, July 25th from 3:00-8:00 p.m. at C.M. Humpula Funeral Home, 209 Entrepreneur Dr., St. Charles and again on Wednesday, July 26th, at the funeral home from 10:00-11:00 a.m. A procession to St. Mary's Cemetery will follow with a committal service and Military Honors performed at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the St. Charles Area Museum or the St. Charles Library. A visitation and celebration of life was held on July 19, 2017 in Sequim, Washington.

Harold Frederick Blaine

November 2, 1951 - May 28, 2017


BLAINE, Harold Frederick, age 65 years, passed away Sunday, May 28, 2017 at his home after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Saginaw, Michigan on November 2, 1951 to William and the late Anna (Keeven) Blaine. On August 7, 1971 he married the former Betty Marie Kelbey and she survives him. Harold was a lifelong farmer and he held various positions at Zion Lutheran Church and School. Harold was also chairman of Saginaw County FSA and chairman of Saginaw County Soil Conservation. Harold loved fishing, hunting, boating and spending time at his home in Florida and Oscoda with his family and friends.

Along with his wife Betty, Harold is survived by his four sons, three daughter-in-laws and eight grandchildren, Jeffrey H (Erin Volk) Blaine, Elizabeth, Thomas and Samantha of Rochester Hills, Brian A. (Tracy Marietta) Blaine, Meghan, Lauren and Justin of Hemlock, Mark A. Blaine of Chesaning and Eric M. (Kimberly Skornicka) Blaine, Anna and Myah of St. Charles; his father William (Ellen) Blaine; brother and sister-in-laws, Karen (Rob) Hemker, Jacquelyn (Rich) Hemker, Sandra (Jerry) Mose and Shannon Kelbey; and several nieces and nephews. Harold was preceded in death by his mother, Anna Blaine; mother and father-in-law, Jack and Shirley Kelbey and a brother-in-law, Jack Kelbey.

A funeral service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, 133 Commercial St., Chesaning on Thursday, June 1 at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Joel W. Thomford will officiate. His burial will follow at Wildwood Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, May 31 from 11:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. at C.M. Humpula Funeral Home, 209 Entrepreneur Dr., St. Charles and again on Thursday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Zion Lutheran Church or School.

William David Blehm

July 22, 1949 - April 6, 2017


BLEHM, William David, age 67 years, passed away April 6, 2017. He was born July 22, 1949 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Robert and Ardith (LaValey) Blehm. Bill was an Army veteran. He retired from General Motors after over 30 years of employment.

Bill is survived by his children whom he loved, Sarah (Ryan) Cudd, Andrew Blehm and Kyle Blehm; grandchildren, Keegan and Kinsley Cudd; siblings, Robert (Judith) Blehm, Karen Phelps and Beverly Holubik. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Sharon Coss.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at C.M. Humpula Funeral Home, 209 Entrepreneur Dr., St. Charles. Pastor Bill Bodnar will officiate with burial to follow at Garfield Cemetery. Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Monday from 1:00-8:00 p.m. and again on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorial may be made to the family's wishes.

Andrew Tyler Ernest Dilts

February 18, 1994 - March 18, 2017


DILTS, Andrew Tyler Ernest, age 23 years, passed away at home on Saturday, March 18, 2017. He was born in Saginaw, Michigan on February 18, 1994 to Dale and Michelle (Broughton) Dilts.

Along with his parents, Drew is survived by his siblings, Dustin, Madison and William Dilts; Step-father, John Bradford; step-siblings, Ivy Carrick and Donnie Peters; nephew, Oliver Kroll; Grandparents, William and Diana Broughton and Georgena Dilts; Aunt Lauriena and Uncle Jon Franks; cousins Johnathan and Diana Franks; and several other aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Dale Dilts.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 24, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Baptist Church, 7090 S. Graham Rd., St. Charles. Pastor Dave Boillat will officiate. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in St. Charles. The family will greet visitors at C.M. Eugene "Gene" Simons

February 20, 1946 - March 7, 2017


SIMONS, Eugene (Gene) Nelson, age 71 years, passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2017 in Saginaw, Michigan. He was born on February 20, 1946 to the late Edgar and Mildred (Maturen) Simons. On August 28, 1965 he married the former Joyce Roe and she survives him. Gene retired from US Graphite after 33 years of employment. He was a member of St. Charles United Methodist Church and enjoyed woodworking and gardening.

Along with his wife Joyce, Gene is survived by his sons, Ron (Terrie) Simons and Jeffrey (Heather) Simons; grandchildren, Courtney (Tim) Cummings, Jacob, Kiera and Gabrielle Simons; great grandchildren, Liam and Mackenzie Cummings; a brother, Larry (Arlene) Simons; a sister, Patricia Baur; sister-in-laws, Doris Simons, Diann Simons and Lois (Wayne) Benkert; nieces, Dawn (Greg) Miller, Julie (Bob) Travis, Kathy (Tim) Reisterer, Tracy (Mike) Preuter and Dawn Lamb; and nephew, Matthew Benkert. Along with his parents, Gene was preceded in death by brothers, Melvin and Ralph Simons; a brother-in-law, Curt Baur and a nephew Paul LaPort.

A memorial service will take place Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. at C.M. Humpula Funeral Home, 209 Entrepreneur Dr., St. Charles. Rev. Ernesto Mariona and Rev. Beth Librande will officiate. Cindy Lee Pries

November 15, 1958 - February 23, 2017


PRIES, Cindy Lee, age 58 years, passed away Thursday, February 23, 2017 in Saginaw, Michigan. She was born on November 15, 1958 to the late Perry and Betty (Fowler) Shuler in Carson City, Michigan. On February 14, 1990 she married Lyle Pries and he survives her. Cindy was a member of the Chippewa Indian Tribe. She loved Elvis, her two dogs, Buddy and Tasha, spending time at her cabin and most of all spending time with her family and friends.

Along with her husband Lyle, Cindy is survived by her daughter, Crystal Lee Pries (fiance, Kirk Hassen II); brothers, Bryan Shuler and Andy (Pat) Shuler; brother and sister-in-laws, Henry and Denise Pries and Leslie and Christine Pries; Goddaughter, Joni (John) Cody; 3 grandchildren, Timothy, Leah, and John; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service will take place Thursday, March 2, 2017 at 1:00 p.m., at C.M. Humpula Funeral Home, 209 Entrepreneur Dr., St. Charles. Pastor Jerry Larkin will officiate. Tony Lee Butler, Sr.

September 27, 1956 - January 16, 2016


BUTLER, Tony Lee, age 60 years, passed away Monday, January 16, 2017. He was born on September 27, 1956 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Ray and Betty (Sims) Butler. Tony loved the outdoors, bicycling, fishing, camping and kayaking and being with his family.

Tony is survived by his soul mate, Renee Bedtelyon; children, Joshua Butler, Melanie Butler, Tony Butler, Jr., Monika Nauta-Clark; step-children, Josh Sharrow and Rachelle Randville; grandchildren, Lillian and Katelynn Girardin, Logan and Noah Snyder, Everett Nauta, Oliver Butler, Lilly, Xaiver and Jameson Ranville and Brady Sharrow; siblings, Ruthann (Art) Case, Sherri Foreman, Denna Butler, Mary Butler, Ernie (Marion) Butler, niece, Kimmy (Al) Bills and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, Tony was predeceased by a brother, Mark Butler; sisters, Betty Ann and April Butler; and a nephew Tim Butler.
