Ruth Joyce Valentine

December 28, 1944 - April 14, 2015


VALENTINE, Ruth Joyce, age 89 years, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 20, 2015. She was born on May 9, 1926 to the late John and Alice Hall.

Ruth is survived by a son, Larry (Debbie) Valentine Sr.; grandchildren, Larry (Candy) Valentine Jr. and Tiffany (Ralph) Cody; great-grandchildren, Larry Valentine III, Ryan Valentine, Felica (Allen) Himes and Justin Cody; and a great-great-grandchild, Hayden Cody.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at C.M. Humpula Funeral Home, 209 Entrepreneur Dr., St. Charles. Pastor Phil Ortega will officiate with burial following at Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorial contributions can be made to Alzheimer's Association.

Marvin E. LeVan

December 28, 1944 - April 14, 2015


LEVAN, Marvin E., age 70 years, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his wife and children on April 14, 2015. Marvin is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Marilyn (Hoch) LeVan; his daughter, Martina Marshall; his son and daughter-in-law, Martin and Carrie LeVan; 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Marvin proudly served in the United States Marines. He retired from General Motors in 1995. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending winters in Florida.

A memorial service will be held at C.M. Humpula Funeral Home, 209 Entrepreneur Dr., St. Charles on Saturday, April 25 at 4:00 p.m. Visitation will take place from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.

Arlene Pearl Theile

May 21, 1929 - February 21, 2015


Theile, Arlene Pearl, age 74 years, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at Toni and Trish House in Auburn, with family by her side. She was born on April 1, 1940 to the late Leo and Margaret (Loeffelbeim) Hollenback. On July 26, 1958 she married Kenneth Theile and he preceded her in death. Arlene was an active member of Hope Lutheran Church. She loved the casino, playing cards, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Arlene is survived by her children, Julia (Larry) Stam, Mary Lorencz and Kenneth (Heather) Theile; grandchildren, Christopher Stam, Jeannie (Josh) Nelson, Trisha and Jacob Lorencz and Kristin and Brody Theile; great-grandchildren, Gage Stam and Kendra Nelson; siblings, James Hollenback, Betty Thomas, Iris Calhoun, Jerry Hollenback and Roger Hollenback; special friend Nancy Duranso and many other family members and friends. Along with her parents and husband Arlene was preceded in death by two sisters, Marie Hollenback and Delores Varacka.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Hope Lutheran Church, 1123 W. Walnut St., St. Charles. Pastor Jason Baldwin will officiate. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, March 27, 2015 from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at C.M. Humpula Funeral Home, 209 Entrepreneur Dr., St. Charles, and again on Saturday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorial contributions can be made to Toni and Trish House or Hope Lutheran Church.

Gloria Mae McNaughton

May 21, 1929 - February 21, 2015


MCNAUGHTON, Gloria Mae, passed away peacefully at her home on February 21, 2015, at the age of 85 years. She was born May 21, 1929 in Corunna, Michigan to the late Anthony and Bessie (Murdock) Follen. She married Don McNaughton on April 15, 1953 and he preceded her in death in October of 2007. Gloria worked at Aerocraft/Browning Marine in St. Charles for 15 years. She enjoyed listening to music and following her daughter Kathy's band.

Gloria is survived by her brother Harold (Ruth) Follen of Durand; a son, Tim (Tonia) McNaughton of Chesaning; two daughters, Julie and Kathy McNaughton of Chesaning; Six grandsons, Joe (Jenee) McNaughton of Saginaw, Nick McNaughton of Brant, Mike McNaughton of Brant, Joshua McNaughton of Flushing, Anthony (Jodi) McNaughton of Chesaning, and Justin (Brandi) McNaughton of Chesaning; seven great-grandchildren, Alaina, Thomas, Elizabith, Layla, Riley, Kylie and Anthony and several loved nieces and nephews. Along with her parents and husband Gloria was preceded in death by her two sons, Michael and Merlin McNaughton.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at C.M. Humpula Funeral Home, 209 Entrepreneur Dr., St. Charles. The Rev. Ray Strawser will officiate with burial following at Brant Township Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2:00-8:00 p.m. and again on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Evelyn Avis Liedeke

October 10, 1926 - February 18, 2015


LIEDEKE, Evelyn Avis, age 88 years, passed away February 18, 2015. She was born on October 10, 1926 in Wheeler, Michigan to the late Henry and Mary (Shaw) Rittenour. On November 10, 1945 she married Albert George Liedeke and he preceded her in death. Evelyn was a member of the Mason Star, Merrill OES.

Evelyn is survived by 5 children, Ronald (Diane) Liedeke, Betty (Michael) Naessens, Carol (Dennis) Burns, Ernest Liedeke (Lisa), and Roger (Michelle “Micki”) Liedeke; 16 Grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Paul Rittenour. Along with her parents and husband Evelyn was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Frances Hansen, Myrtle Harris and Flossie Welke; 2 brothers, Roy and Ellis Rittenour and 3 infant siblings.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. at CM Humpula Funeral Home, 209 Entrepreneur Dr., St. Charles. Chaplain Susan Gingerich will officiate. A private burial will take place at Lakefield Twp. Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday from noon until the time of service. Memorial contributions can be made to Dementia.

Mary Lou Schantz

May 7, 1931 - January 24, 2015


SCHANTZ, Mary Lou, age 83 years, dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away peacefully at home in the presence of her family, Saturday, January 24, 2015, after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was born May 7, 1931 in Petoskey, MI to William and Thelma (Trautman) Price. She married John Emery Schantz on November 7, 1953 he predeceased her in 2003. Mary was a devout Catholic belonging to St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception, St. Charles. She was a prayer line member and was active in her church. She taught sewing classes for 4H. She owned and operated Schantz's Blueberries for 42 years. She was kind and generous and was known for her fresh homemade bread, golf cart rides, and blueberries.

Surviving are 13 of her 14 children, Rita Chad, Patricia Schantz, Dolores (Arn) Koteskey, Edward (Laura) Schantz, Andrew (Darlene) Schantz, Vincent Schantz, Lois (Duane) Robertson, Anne (Larry) Wade, William Schantz, Daniel Schantz, Jeanette Bean, Frances (Brian) Hunt, and Donna Schantz: daughter-in-law, Mrs. Donna Schantz: grandchildren, Ben, Matt, Nick, Mary, Luke (Shannon), Anna, Gina, and Mark Chad; Kurt (Diana), Gregg (Sandy), Matthew, and Shelley Koteskey; Michael Schantz, Jennifer Schantz and Sarah (Bryan) Kenyon; Ashley Loudenslager and Zachary Schantz; Trevor and Noah Robertson; Cassandra and Ariana Wade; Nathaniel and Alexis Bean; and Clarice and Audrey Hunt: great-grandchildren, Sarah, Renee, Andrea, Jayme Chad; Lydia Chad; Gwen, Fionna, and Charlotte Kenyon; and Mason and Isaac Koteskey: 4 siblings, Marie (Walt) Fineout, Linda Oostemeyer, Peggy (Ray) Borowiak, and Carl (Judy) Price. She also leaves many special friends and neighbors behind. She was predeceased by her son, John E. Schantz II: a grandson, Brent Warrington: 3 brothers, William, Jerry, and Tony Price: and 1 sister, Alice Burrows.

Mass of Christian burial will take place on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church. Fr. Andrew LaFromboise will preside. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, St. Charles. Visitation will take place on Monday, January 26 from 2-8 p.m. at C.M. Humpula Funeral Home, 209 Entrepreneur Dr., St. Charles, with a Vigil and for the deceased being held at 7 p.m. followed by the rosary. She will lie in state at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Memorial contributions can be made to Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church.

Donald J. Albosta

December 5, 1925 - December 18, 2014


ALBOSTA, Donald Joseph, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother passed away peacefully Thursday, December 18, 2014 at the age of 89. He was born in Saginaw, Michigan on December 5, 1925 to the late Paul and Laura (Bennet) Albosta. He attended Saginaw and Chesaning Public Schools and graduated from Chesaning Agricultural School. He married the former Dorothy Ankoviak on February 10, 1951 and she survives him.

Don was a proud farmer, founding and operating Misteguay Creek Farms. He served his country in the United States Navy during WWII, and served his community as Albee Township Trustee, Saginaw County Commissioner, Michigan State House of Representatives 86th district, US Congressman 10th district, School Board Secretary and Agricultural Policy Advisory Committee for Trade. He was also the director of the Sugar Beet Growers Association, Associate Director of Saginaw County Soil Conservation District, on the State Advisory Board of the FHA, member of the Farmer' Union and NFO, president of Prairie Farms Cooperative for 20 years, a member of St. Charles VFW post 5695 and the 1960 Outstanding Young Farmer of the Year.

Along with his wife of 63 years Dorothy, Don is survived by his daughter, Christine (Gary) White of Bancroft; son, Paul (Renee) Albosta of Burt; granddaughters, Chelsey and Carly Albosta; a sister, Ruth Sklebeck and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass will be held on Monday, December 22 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Church of Albee. Fr. Christopher Coman will preside with burial following at St. Mary's Cemetery in Albee. Visitation will take place at C.M. Humpula Funeral Home, 209 Entrepreneur Dr., St. Charles on Sunday from 1-8 p.m. and again on at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Memorial contributions can be made to Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church or a charity of the donor's choice.

Arla June Gilmore

April 6, 1928 - December 4, 2014


GILMORE, Arla June, age 87, passed away December 4, 2014. She was born April 3, 1928 to the late Walter H. and Helen (Vincent) Frasier. Arla married the late Charles H. Gilmore April 6, 1948 in Ripley, NY. Arla was a homemaker and also made wedding cakes.

She leaves behind five sons, Edward (Kris) Gilmore of Swartz Creek, James (Holly) Gilmore of Owosso, Douglas (Kathie) Gilmore of Davison, Dennis (Shelly) Gilmore of Grand Blanc and Patrick (Martha) Gilmore of Grand Blanc; 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 8, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at C.M. Humpula Funeral Home, 209 Entrepreneur Dr., St. Charles. Her great nephew Doug Haskins will officiate. Burial will follow at Brant Township Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Sunday from 1-3 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. and again on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Medical Team.


Lela M. Thurston

November 6, 1929 - December 2, 2014


THURSTON, Lela M., age 85, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2014. On May 28, 1949, she married the love of her life, John E. Thurston, Jr., and together they raised a family as life long residents of St. Charles, Michigan. In the early years of marriage, Lela worked as a nurse, and in 1963 started work for Morley Incentives (Morley Brothers) where she worked until retirement. She traveled extensively for work and for pleasure with John and also enjoyed, golfing, bowling, and spending time with her family. She was an active member of the St. Charles United Methodist Church and a volunteer for VNA-Hospice. Lela was a "people-person" and she treasured her many friendships with neighbors, golfing and bowling buddies, high school classmates, friends from church and those she met through her volunteer activities. She and John also maintained lasting friendships with fellow "Winter Texans" whom they met while spending 20 winters on South Padre Island. She cherished her friendship with each and every one of them.

Lela is survived by two daughters, Kathy (Richard) Lovato and Sally (Jamie) Wright; three grandchildren, Melissa (Christopher) Zielinski, Abby (Kevin) Brant, and John Maxwell Wright; and three great-grandchildren, Rylan Zielinski, Elliott Brant, and Callen Zielinski. She was predeceased by John E. Thurston, Jr. on March 10, 2013, after 64 years of marriage.

As she requested, Cremation has taken place and a private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

A very special thanks is extended from her family to Mom's loving family at Union Court Assisted Living for the exceptional and compassionate care she received during her residency with them. Thank you also to Wellspring Hospice for their compassionate care during her final days.

Gary Douglas Alexander

October 23, 1959 - September 23, 2014


ALEXANDER, Gary Douglas, age 54 years, passed away Tuesday, September 23. He was born in Saginaw on October 23, 1959 to the late Floyd and Nancy (Hodges) Alexander. On May 19, 1985 he married the former Lu Ann Bennett and she survives him. Gary worked for 15 years as a supervisor at Pro Cat Testing. He loved riding motorcycles, casinos and auto mechanics. Gary also loved spending time with his wife and hanging out with friends.

Along with his wife of 29 years Lu Ann, Gary is survived by his mother, Nancy; his children, Christopher Redburn and Amy (Jerry) Handley; sister, Diane (Glen) Rogers; brothers, Roger (Sharon) Alexander and Alan (Teresa) Alexander; grandchildren, Jesse and Melody Redburn, Nathaniel and Nicholas Sperling, and Steven (Natyia) Smith; great-grandson Christopher Redburn; Grandmother Beatrice Alexander and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Gary was predeceased by his father, Floyd Alexander, grandfather Lester Alexander and grandparents Clyde and Martha Hodges.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 27 at 1:00 p.m. at C.M. Humpula Funeral Home, 209 Entrepreneur Dr, St. Charles. Pastor John R. Miller will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, from 2-8 p.m. and again on Saturday, from noon until the service time. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the wishes of the family.


Stacy Marie Westendorf

March 29, 1989 - September 21, 2014


WESTENDORF, Stacy Marie, age 25, passed away September 21, 2014. She was born in Saginaw on March 29, 1989 to Timothy Hare and Heidi Westendorf. She was a loving mother of two children whom were her world.

Along with her parents, Stacy is survived by her 2 children age 2 and 5 years; 9 siblings, Rebecca, Rachel, Kimberly, Crystal, Emily, Timothy Jr., Tony, Travis and Brandy Hare; and her grandparents Arlene and Don Pack.


A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 29, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at C.M. Humpula Funeral Home, 209 Entrepreneur Dr., St. Charles. Pastor Bill Bodnar of Old Town Christian Outreach Center will officiate. The family will receive friends on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
